London. Working across EMEA.

Matt Rogers

I've worked on both sides of the table between retailers and the technology providers who sell to them. Retailers know the outcome they want. Technology providers know what their product can do. Neither always sees the other's side of the table.

How I can help

Technology providers
Go to market, positioning, and pursuit strategy for retail tech businesses at every stage, from first ICP to enterprise pursuit, built from years working inside retailers, then commercial leadership selling into them.
Retailers
Helping retailers build, refresh, or bring in-house their approach to customer analytics and data monetisation: choosing what fits, commercialising what it produces, and growing the revenue it earns.
Investors
Commercial and market due diligence across retail data, analytics, and retail technology.

How it works

Most engagements start with a short piece of work rather than a retainer: a diagnostic, a valuation, a go to market review, usually a few weeks. That is often enough on its own, and where it isn't, it makes the next decision clearer.

I work directly with the people accountable for the outcome, not through a team. That keeps engagements small, and it means I turn down work where I am not the right person. I also take on fractional commercial leadership where a longer arrangement suits the situation better.

Background

At Target I sat on the retailer side, in merchandise planning and category management. At WPP I worked the agency side, running shopper marketing programmes for CPGs. At SymphonyAI I was embedded with retailers as a consultant while selling data and analytics to their suppliers. At Aimia, IRI, and Circana — the same business through an acquisition, merger, and rebrand — I spent eleven years on the commercial side, advising on customer analytics and data monetisation while selling the solutions that enable them. Four seats around the same problem.

I started my career in the US and have spent the last 14 years living and working in Asia and Europe: on the ground with Big C Thailand, Albert Heijn, and ICA, then selling to leading retailers across APAC and EMEA. I was most recently SVP Business Development for EMEA Retail at Circana, leading strategy, go to market, and pursuit teams across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
